Canines for Community Resilience (CFCR) dogs are specifically trained to participate in traumatic situations and are proficient in being able to tolerate, adapt and cope with the physical and emotional stress of critical incidents. They are specifically trained to work in unpredictable, fast-paced and frequently-changing environments with various types of people and other dogs. The dog’s handler has advanced training in dog behavior, has knowledge of human and animal First Aid, as well as Psychological First Aid and stress management.

  • Promote Psychological First Aid
    • Aims to reduce stress symptoms and assist in a healthy recovery following a traumatic event, natural disaster, public health emergency or even a personal crisis
    • Utilizing dogs helps this strategy by reducing a painful range of emotions and responses experienced by people exposed to high stress and trauma
  • Help facilitate open communication
  • Create a safe environment
  • Provide a calm and comforting environment
  • Help people connect and draws attention outward
  • Decrease feelings of anxiety, anger, depression and hopelessness
  • Increase positive expectations of self and others
  • Foster feelings of safety and acceptance
