We have always worked closely with Broward County Animal Care, whose job is to take in stray animals. Although we have no affiliation, there are many cases where the animals at BCAC can benefit from our care.
Several times a week Broward County Animal Care sends out a list of “special needs” pets that need placement with a rescue group. These dogs and cats either have a medical condition that is beyond what Broward County Animal Care can treat, or are pets that have been there a long time. Pre-approved rescue partners receive the list and decide whether they can help.
The HSBC is fortunate to have a pool of veterinary resources and equipment to assist. So, if it is a case we think we can help with, of course we step up. In the past few months it has been particularly busy!
These are some of the animals we have recently transferred and tended to:
Especially affectionate little Kiara, a domestic shorthair cat, suffered a horrible injury to her right rear leg and the bone was protruding through the skin. Amputation was the only solution. After a successful surgery and two weeks of recovery, she went home the very day she was placed up for adoption.
Ozzie, a mixed breed dog, came to BCAC with a badly mangled lower leg that had been caught in something. Sadly, our veterinarian, Dr. Singh, had to amputate the leg. However, Ozzie recovered from his injury and now lives a happy life.
10-year-old Gianni, a Yorkshire terrier mix, had a badly infected cyst on his left front paw. He also had severe infections in his left eye and in both ears, in addition to advanced periodontal disease. His surgical procedure included dental extractions, dewclaw and cyst removal, and unfortunately the eye needed removal as well.
Thanks to the contributions of our supporters, we are able to “step up” as needed and help animals like Kiara, Ozzie and Gianni. We are grateful to our donors, who make all of our efforts possible!
