Happy Dog Biscuit Day

Every dog has its day – and this is certainly one day that dogs love to celebrate. Nobody seems to know the exact origin of dog treats, but every canine in the world knows the best way to celebrate its creation. Pets will be wagging their tails with glee when their owners serve up unusual or home-made doggy snacks to mark the occasion.

The first commercially-sold dog biscuits were developed in the mid-19th century by American manufacturer James Spratt. The first Spratt’s biscuits were produced in London, with a secret recipe including both meat and vegetables.

Today, dog biscuits are made of a WIDE variety of ingredients and used for a variety of purposes. Our friends at Purina, who manufacture some of the world’s most beloved dog treats, list some of the most popular reasons why we feed our dogs biscuits:

Dog treats show your dog that you love him. They can also be effective motivators, timely rewards and simple reminders that you care.

Purina provides all kinds of treats to help you train your dog, bond with him further and reward him with pleasant surprises.

Just remember that the caloric intake from treats should not exceed 10% of a dog’s total daily caloric requirement. If you give your dog treats, reduce the food you give him accordingly.

Rewarding your dog is an important way to bond with him. Take care to feed him high quality treats in a reasonable amount to maintain his health and happiness.Purina
