Update 10/14/18:

Hurricane Michael left a path of destruction and one of its victims is a small rural shelter in Dothan, AL. Dothan Animal Services suffered damage, including one building that lost its roof. Fortunately, power has been restored at the facility, but several staff are still without power.

A team of four left on Sunday to make the 1100 mile round trip drive and will return on Monday with animals. Staff delivered pet food, a generator, water and other much-needed supplies to the shelter that were generously donated from people in our community.

Approximately 44 dogs and 4 felines will be arriving at the HSBC with an estimated time of arrival of 5:15 – 6:00 pm. (Rear of shelter)

Including in the precious cargo is a mommy dog, who gave birth right before the storm to 10 babies and Bailey, a 2-year-old small mixed breed who was given up by his family who lost everything. The family, who were from Tyndall Airforce Base were heartbroken to give up their loyal friend.

The HSBC is located at 2070 Griffin Road, a block west of I-95 and the adoption areas open daily at 10:30. To see who needs a home, make a donation or learn about upcoming events visit www.humanebroward.com

The Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) has made arrangements to help these animals. A team of four will be leaving on Sunday to make the 555-mile drive and return on Monday with the animals. In anticipation of their arrival, the HSBC wants to ensure they have room for all of them. If you have thought about adopting a pet, now would be a perfect time, especially if you are a cat or big dog lover.
