The US Department of Veterans Affairs in 2022 said that there are 19 million Veterans living in the US. For many brave members of our nation’s armed forces, coming home as a civilian is only the beginning of another daunting battle. The invisible wounds of war, including stress, anxiety. PTS and TBI can cause debilitating symptoms in veterans, leading to depression and social isolation. A dog’s ability to read emotions, provide stress relief, and act as a companion can be critical.
Spirit Airlines and the Humane Society of Broward County are committed to harnessing the healing power of the human-animal bond to put more healing leashes into the hands of more veterans in need. Through Mutts and Meows for Military, dogs and cats in search of forever homes will be matched with veterans in search of a companion.
This program will include the following support for military veterans.
Waived adoption fee for adult dogs/cats 6 months and older (adult cats are $80 and adult dogs are $200)
Adoption package to help ensure a successful adoption:
Leashes, collars, toys, treats, crate ($250 value for dogs) ($100 value for cats)
Behavior classes at HSBC ($180 value)
