Privacy Policy

The Humane Society of Broward County relies on the generosity of our community and companies to fund our operations and programs budget. We do not get funding from the government, United Way or any other national or local organizations with similar names. Income sources are: adoption fees; services such as dog obedience, vaccination clinics, spay/neuter programs; pet boutique sales; fundraising events; grants; general donations and from those people who leave the shelter in their will. Every dollar is carefully spent to help the unwanted animals.

The HSBC is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. We have developed this privacy policy to ensure that donor information be treated with security and confidentiality. This privacy policy applies to collection of information, including information collected on our website. By submitting your information to us or our staff, you consent to the terms and conditions of the policy and to our processing personal information for the purposes stated below.

Donor information

HSBC collects and maintains the following types of donor information when it is voluntarily provided to us:

  • Contact information such as name, address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • Giving information
  • Information on events attended, publications received and special requests for program information
  • Information provided by the donor in the form of comments and suggestions

This confidential information is kept on file for IRS purposes. It is also used to analyze overall giving patterns in order to make more accurate budget projections, as well as to understand donors’ interests in our mission and to update them on the organization’s plans and activities. This information is shared with staff, board members, volunteers and consultants only on a confidential and need-to-know basis. It is also shared with our corporate partners for use within 30 days of adoption.

List sharing

HSBC does not sell, rent, trade or share its donor list with any other organization. HSBC does not send out mailings on behalf of other organizations.

Third Party Services, Devices and Links

You may find that it is possible to link from third party websites to the HSBC Online Services, or access content or links on the HSBC Online Services to websites, platforms, and services operated and owned by third parties (“Third Party Services”). For example, links within the page shop.humanebroward.com take you to Third Party Services. To the extent we combine information from Third Party Services with Personal Information we collect directly from you on the HSBC Online Services, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information under this Privacy Policy. However, Third Party Services are not under our control, and may use Tracking Technologies to independently collect information about you and may solicit Personal Information from you. Analytics and Online Advertising

We may use Google Analytics and other third parties for analytics services. These third parties may use Tracking Technologies to track the actions of users of the HSBC Online Services, to measure statistics of user activity on the HSBC Online Services, and provide other services relating to the HSBC Online Services activity and internet usage. We may also engage and work with third parties to serve advertisements on the HSBC Online Services and/or on Third Party Services. These third parties may use Tracking Technologies to track marketing efforts and to deliver “interest-based advertisements” that may be more relevant to individual consumers. You may withdraw your consent at any time for any data processing we do based on consent you have provided to us.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us as set forth in the section entitled “Contact Us” below and specify which right you intend to exercise. We will respond to your request within 30 days. We may require additional information from you to allow us to confirm your identity. Data Controller Information

The data controller with respect to the data processing described in this Privacy Policy depends on the processing at issue. When you provide your information through a website or application operated by the HSBC that posts a link to this Privacy Policy, the data controller is the Humane Society of Broward County, located at the address in the section entitled “Contact Us”.

Data Security

We implement and maintain reasonable administrative, physical, and technical security measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. Discontinuing contact upon request

It is the policy of HSBC to communicate with donors according to their expressed preferences whenever possible. HSBC will discontinue or change the method used to contact any person upon that person’s oral or written request directed to the organization, its professional fundraiser, or other agent.

HSBC shall maintain a record of all requests by persons who indicate to the Humane Society of Broward County, its volunteers, or other agents, that they do not wish to be contacted by or on behalf of HSBC.

This policy does not prohibit contact by an individual or group voluntarily soliciting on behalf of HSBC, even if the person being contacted has requested to be placed on the “do not contact list.”

Upon a person’s (or a person’s authorized representative’s) request that HSBC discontinue further contacts, the person’s name and address will be promptly modified in HSBC’s donor database to ensure that no further contact is made with the person. HSBC will also take steps to ensure that no further contact is made with the individual and that the person’s name is removed from any external databases or records under HSBC’s control.

Permanent Record: The Humane Society of Broward County will maintain an electronic record of all requests for discontinuance of contacts, effective with the adoption of this policy by HSBC’s board of directors. Oral requests will be noted in writing by the staff of HSBC and then permanently recorded in the electronic donor database. The records of persons who have made such a request will be maintained by HSBC to the extent necessary for legal or liability purposes.
