Dogs can’t read x-rays…but catscan!

The homeless animals need your help!
Did you know that x-ray machines can help doctors see more than just broken bones? They are actually a critical diagnostic tool for veterinarians as they help patients that cannot tell anyone where it hurts. Some of the most common uses for x-rays by our veterinarians at the Humane Society of Broward County include diagnosing internal trauma, checking for blockages in the digestive tract, figuring out what inedible object an animal swallowed, screening for and treating heartworm disease, viewing bones, and so much more.
In 2014, the Humane Society of Broward County was lucky to receive donations that allowed us to purchase a much needed x-ray machine. Since then, over 2,500 x-rays have been performed to help save the lives of thousands of animals from our shelter and in the community.
The need for x-rays has increased over the last few years due to the shelter’s surrender prevention services and our newly added heartworm treatment programs, in which homeless dogs with heartworm disease from all over the country are saved and brought to Humane Society of Broward County for treatment. X-rays are vital to safely and successfully treat heartworm disease. Who knew?!
Just as our needs for x-rays has increased, so has the necessity of an upgraded machine that will allow for more accurate radiographs and provide better protection from radiation exposure to our veterinary staff. The cost of the x-ray machine upgrade is $19,250, something we did not anticipate, but is imperative in helping us to continue saving lives.
If you would like to help us reach our goal and to continue to save the lives of animals in need, you can go to the following page to place a donation
https://humanebroward.com/xray/
towards our x-ray machine upgrade.
Every dollar makes a difference and every donation is greatly appreciated.
