Florida Panthers’ hockey player Sam Bennett started his Benny’s Buddies charitable program after his fiancé began volunteering at HSBC, saying “It eventually started because my fiancé volunteers here (Humane Society of Broward County) once a week and we both have a love for animals. We ended up adopting a dog from the shelter here a couple weeks ago and then we just had the idea that we want to do something else to help all the other pets, dogs and cats that are here and available to get adopted. So, we thought about the program, Benny’s Buddies, and to sponsor the adoption fee of any pet for every goal I score this year is what we’re going to do. It’s a great cause and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”
To date, dozens of Benny’s Buddies pets have found their forever homes, all with their adoption fees paid by Bennett.
Meet Our Featured Benny's Buddies
Peaches
Peaches is an adorable black and white kitty with expressive golden-hazel eyes. She has an engaging, sweet nature and chirps and purrs her appreciation for love and attention. Peaches has a long attention span for playing, whether it’s interactive play with feathers and ribbons, racing through her tunnel in search of toys and treats or chasing a ball. Sometimes, she will even bring back the ball, hoping it will be thrown again. When Peaches has had enough play time, she loves to snuggle on a welcoming lap to be cuddled and petted while munching on some delicious treats. Please come and meet Peaches and fall in love with this amazing kitty. What a wonderful addition she will be to a loving, attentive home!
Thanks to #9 Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers, he has kindly paid her adoption fee. Barkov
Two years ago Barkov was adopted at our shelter. Now he’s back because sadly, his family lost their home and couldn’t take him to their new place. Barkov is ready to find a family that will give him a TRUE forever home. One filled with love and compassion, which he will give right back. This happy pup is housetrained, good with people and older kids (he may be too much for the young ones), good with other dogs (but we always recommend a dog meet), and has never met any kitties. He’s super friendly and will gladly go meet anyone. He loves the dog park because he gets to meet so many friends! Barkov is just a bundle of love and happiness, and one lucky family will get to share in this joy.
Thanks to Florida Panther Sam Bennett, he has paid Barkov’s adoption fee. For each goal Sam scored a shelter pet benefits. If you think Barkov might be a good fit for your family, please fill out a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com and come to the shelter to meet him. The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and opens daily at 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please call 954-989-3977.
