Benny’s Buddies

Florida Panthers’ hockey player Sam Bennett started his Benny’s Buddies charitable program after his fiancé began volunteering at HSBC, saying “It eventually started because my fiancé volunteers here (Humane Society of Broward County) once a week and we both have a love for animals. We ended up adopting a dog from the shelter here a couple weeks ago and then we just had the idea that we want to do something else to help all the other pets, dogs and cats that are here and available to get adopted. So, we thought about the program, Benny’s Buddies, and to sponsor the adoption fee of any pet for every goal I score this year is what we’re going to do. It’s a great cause and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

To date, dozens of Benny’s Buddies pets have found their forever homes, all with their adoption fees paid by Bennett.

Meet Our Featured Benny's Buddies

Adrian

Adrian is a pretty 8-year-old brown tabby with soulful, hazel-green eyes that question why she is here. She misses her deceased human and is shy but, with some patience, her sweet nature becomes apparent. Adrian enjoys petting and attention and gets along well with other cats. She is observant and aware of the activity around her, even if she is not always a participant. Adrian will thrive in an attentive home where she receives the love she so richly deserves.

Thanks to #9 Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers, he has kindly paid her adoption fee. Every time Sam scores a goal, another pet at the Humane Society of Broward County benefits. To meet Adrian or any other pet visit www.humanebroward.com and complete the pre-adoption application. The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33312, and the adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m. If you have any questions call 954-989-3977.

Dierks

Dierks is the happiest 5-year-old Lab with the waggiest tail. He’s friendly, social, playful, and loves staying active. He enjoys walks, takes treats nicely, knows sit, and is eager to learn more. Dierks is currently being treated for heartworm and doing great! All he needs now is a forever family to keep him smiling.

Thanks to Florida Panther Sam Bennett, he has paid Dierks’ adoption fee. For each goal Sam scored a shelter pet benefits. If you think Dierks might be a good fit for your family, please fill out a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com and come to the shelter to meet him. The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and opens daily at 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please call 954-989-3977.

Boris

This fun guy was adopted and returned because he thought cats were there for him to chase. That being said, this amazing dog does need to go home to a cat-free family. 3-year-old Boris is very sweet. He doesn’t bark much, even when he plays in the yard, chasing lizards and having fun. He’s very smart, and he is clicker trained. Being treat-motivated makes him pretty easy to teach. He goes into his crate when asked, and doesn’t complain about being there. He does need exercise to keep him happy, so he’s looking for an active family. He loves people and kids and is good with dogs but a dog meet is always recommended. Come meet Boris and you’ll see just how great he is.

Zola

5-year-old Zola came to us from another shelter where adopters were few, but she hasn’t let that dim her spirit. With her adorable little nose and lovable personality, she’s quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. Zola knows she’s special — and she’s ready to find a family who sees it too.
