Florida Panthers’ hockey player Sam Bennett started his Benny’s Buddies charitable program after his fiancé began volunteering at HSBC, saying “It eventually started because my fiancé volunteers here (Humane Society of Broward County) once a week and we both have a love for animals. We ended up adopting a dog from the shelter here a couple weeks ago and then we just had the idea that we want to do something else to help all the other pets, dogs and cats that are here and available to get adopted. So, we thought about the program, Benny’s Buddies, and to sponsor the adoption fee of any pet for every goal I score this year is what we’re going to do. It’s a great cause and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”
To date, dozens of Benny’s Buddies pets have found their forever homes, all with their adoption fees paid by Bennett.
Meet Our Featured Benny's Buddies
Tanner
Tanner is an 8-year-old tabby with the sweetest, calmest personality. This handsome boy was transferred to us from another shelter and has been patiently waiting for a home for over two months. Tanner loves affection and will happily roll over for belly rubs, make biscuits, and stay curled up right by your side. While he enjoys a little playtime, his favorite thing is simply being close to his people.
Tanner is FIV positive, but cats with FIV can live long, happy, healthy lives with regular veterinary care and an indoor home. He has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a gentle, affectionate cat.
Thanks to #9 Sam Bennett of the Florida Panthers, he has kindly paid his adoption fee. Every time Sam scores a goal, another pet at the Humane Society of Broward County benefits.
To meet Tanner or any other pet visit www.humanebroward.com and complete the pre-adoption application. The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33312, and the adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m. If you have any questions call 954-989-3977.
Daisy
Daisy is a lovely 2-year-old Lab mix with a heart full of love. She came to us from another shelter after being overlooked, and since arriving she has quickly become a staff favorite. Daisy is incredibly affectionate and would much rather cuddle with her people than do just about anything else. She loves pets, gives lots of kisses, enjoys toys, and has a playful but gentle personality.
Daisy walks nicely on leash and has done well meeting other dogs and children while in foster care. She can be a little nervous in new spaces at first, especially around doorways, but warms up quickly with reassurance and affection. Daisy is looking for a home where she can be close to her people and showered with the love she deserves.
Thanks to the Florida Panthers’ Benny’s Buddies program, her adoption fee is covered so she can focus on what really matters: finding her forever home. Every time Sam Bennett (#9 of the Florida Panthers) scored a goal this season, another shelter pet got a second chance.
