It's important to understand that the foster program is about SAVING LIVES. We are seeking Foster Families that are willing to help us with animals that may need a bit more attention. Please be open-minded when making your choices on what type of conditions and/or circumstances you are willing to help with.
I understand that every animal in my care will be treated with the utmost kindness, compassion and respect.
*
I know that if there are any medical or behavioral problems that arise, I will notify the foster team in a timely manner and I will ensure that any medication sent home with the animal will be administered as instructed.
*
For their health and safety, young foster animals will not be taken out in public or even out on the grass since they are too young to be fully vaccinated and may get sick.
*
Fosters will be kept apart from my own animals for at least 7 to 10 days.
*
Baby fosters will be returned to the shelter when requested or when the animal reaches the minimum weight and/or age.
*
If there is a teen as part of this program, they must view the orientation along with a parent. Teens will earn five hours for every FULL DAY (drop off and pick up days are not included) that the pet or pets are in your home as long as they help care for the pet. The log in the Foster manual must be kept current and submitted for hours.
*
In signing, I understand and agree to the following: I understand that if I am inactive for 3 months or if I am not fulfilling the foster needs, my status as an active volunteer may change to inactive without notification from the Humane Society of Broward County. I agree to take direction from the foster families teams and the clinic staff. If I feel that a communication problem exists between the staff and me, I will report the problem to the director of volunteer services or the department head of the area that I am fostering through. I understand that as a volunteer, I may gain access to information about sheltered pets, customers, staff, and other volunteers and I agree to maintain confidentiality and to not disclose any information that is private or personal. I understand that due to the sensitive nature of euthanasia, I will not intentionally look into the records of any shelter animal specifically for the purpose of discovering its outcome. Likewise, I will not ask any staff member for the specific outcome of a sheltered animal.
I will familiarize myself and comply with the Humane Society of Broward County's (HSBC) policies and procedures applicable to volunteers. In particular, I fully understand that the Humane Society of Broward County expects high standards of moral and ethical treatment of the animals under its care. I will adhere strictly to these standards in my capacity as a volunteer. ⦁ I understand that the Humane Society of Broward County, without notice or hearing, may terminate my services as a volunteer at any time, with or without reason and am not eligible for compensation or benefits for services rendered. I certify and warrant that I am in good physical condition and able to participate as a volunteer in the capacity I agree to, and I do agree to participate at my own risk.
1. I agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold the Humane Society of Broward County harmless for any and all damage to my personal property while performing my volunteer services to the HSBC in a volunteer capacity. 2. I understand that in handling animals for the HSBC, while performing my volunteer services, there exists a risk of injury including personal physical harm. On behalf of myself, my heirs, personal representatives and executors, I hereby release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Humane Society of Broward County, its agents, servants, volunteers and employees (past and present) from any and all claims, causes of action or demands, of any nature or cause connected with my Volunteer Agreement. This includes costs, attorney's fees and court costs incurred by the Humane Society of Broward County in connection with my volunteer services based on damages or injuries which may be incurred or sustained but are not limited to animal bites, accidents, injuries, and personal property damage. 3. I understand that public relations are an important part of volunteering at the Humane Society of Broward County. I, therefore, agree on behalf of myself, my heirs, personal representatives, and executors to allow the Humane Society of Broward County to use any photographs taken of me for use in public relations efforts. The Humane Society will use reasonable efforts to notify me but such notification is not a condition of the photographs' release for public relations purposes. 4. I hereby expressly and specifically assume the risk of injury or harm and releases the Humane Society from all liability for injury, illness, death or property damage resulting from the activities and/or volunteer’s negligence. Volunteer also agrees to indemnify the Humane Society for any injury they cause another, and that all related medical costs incurred are the responsibility of the volunteer. 5. I understand that any work performed in any capacity is voluntary in nature and no employment relationship or compensation is implied, additionally except as otherwise agreed to by the Humane Society in writing, the Humane Society does not carry or maintain health, medical, workers compensation, liability or disability insurance coverage for any volunteer.
I certify that all the information which I have given the HSBC is true and accurate.
