Compassionate Community

HSBC adoption, education, engagement, and health services are designed to impart a humane understanding of animal welfare and build a compassionate community of advocacy for their wellbeing. We are excited to help you learn more about our shelter work and the animals we care for in an environment that is supportive, engaging and inspiring. Let’s learn something wonderful and build a compassionate community together.

Teen Animal Care Volunteer Program

We offer an on-site 3-month program for teens ages 14 to 17 and attending high school. Registration for 2024 opens on November 17, 2023 at approximately 3:00pm, and will remain open until all spots are full. Make sure you’re on our website then to secure your spot in one of our six sessions. All positions for 2023 are currently full.

Teen Club

For Ages 13-17, our popular Teen Club has returned! We can’t wait for teens to join us, enjoy the animals, help the shelter and earn service hours for school.

Teen Foster Family

Teens can earn their required high school community service hours by partnering with a parent and becoming a Teen Adoption Ambassador. The program is similar to foster care but goes a step further. Adoption Ambassadors will provide temporary homes for select dogs.

Ralphie’s Reading Buddies

Mrs. Rachel, one of our Humane Educators and her Education Dog, Ralphie (seen above), just love to read! Ralphie decided he’d like to get all of his buddies together to read to the homeless dogs and cats at the Humane Society! Hence, Ralphie’s Reading Buddies came to be!
